About
Free Range
Compare no-cost service options against a real task: see their limits, signup requirements, verification status, and whether an agent can use them.
Coming soon. The repository contains a scouting guide, a dated service catalog, and a generated capability map. It is a research snapshot, not an exhaustive or continuously updated service monitor. This prototype has no supported public skill installation or purchase option.
What the research covers
The catalog spans compute and GPU access, model APIs, hosting, email, agent communication, and skill distribution. Each entry records a status and last verification date. Entries marked unverified are leads to check, not recommendations; rejected and dead options remain labeled so they are not mistaken for current choices.
The capability map is generated from the catalog rather than maintained as a separate source. The workflow compares offers by the job they can do, the limits and signup friction, and the evidence available from provider sources.
Start with the local map
Read the checked-in capability map before considering a new account. To regenerate it from the catalog, run this from the repository root:
python3 bin/gen-capabilities
Use explicit interpreters so these commands also work when an installed host does not preserve executable permission bits. Python 3 is required for the map; Bash is required for the optional diagnostic.
This command reads local Markdown files and writes the map; it does not contact providers or re-verify terms. Check the dated catalog entry and current provider terms before relying on an offer. The optional configured-host diagnostic is separate: bash bin/healthcheck --configured-host checks the maintainer's configured machine and makes network probes. See SCOUT.md for the on-demand research workflow.
Limits
Free offerings, quotas, terms, and account requirements change often. A catalog entry is a dated research note, not a guarantee that a service will still be free or available when you use it. Verify the provider's current terms and required human setup before relying on an option.
Free Range remains under development; it is not yet a released, supported installable product.
